Kitchen and Washroom Cleaning in Al Ain

These are the two rooms where cleaning is a technical job rather than a thorough one. Everywhere else, effort and time are enough. In kitchens and bathrooms, using the wrong product is worse than doing nothing — it can permanently damage the surface you were trying to clean.

Kitchens: it is a grease problem

Cooking releases airborne fat that settles on every surface in the room and then hardens. Over months it builds into a film that ordinary detergent will not shift, and it holds dust, which is what makes an old kitchen look grey.

What a proper kitchen clean covers:

• Extractor hood, filters and ducting — the greasiest item in the house and a genuine fire risk when neglected
• Oven interior — racks, trays, door glass between the panes
• Hob and surrounds, including under the burners
• Cabinet fronts and interiors — the tops of wall units especially, where the film is always worst
• Worktops, splashbacks and grout
• Sink, taps and drain — including limescale
• Behind and under appliances
• Floors, including edges

The extractor is the item most often skipped and the one that matters most. A hood with saturated filters stops extracting, which sends the grease onto every other surface instead.

Bathrooms: it is a limescale and biofilm problem

• Limescale on taps, screens, tiles and sanitary ware
• Grout and silicone — cleaned, and replaced where staining is in the material rather than on it
• Shower screens — where mineral deposit builds into an opaque film
• WC, including the base, behind, and the cistern
• Extract fans — usually thick with dust, which is why the room stays humid
• Drains and traps
• Sanitising of all touch points

An honest surface warning. Acidic limescale removers etch natural stone, damage some metal finishes and degrade grout. Plenty of damage we are asked to fix started with a strong retail descaler used on the wrong surface. If you have stone, tell us before anyone applies anything.

When the answer is repair, not cleaning

Some things do not clean out, and we will tell you rather than scrubbing at them:

• Silicone stained through — needs stripping and replacing, not cleaning
• Grout that has failed — needs raking out and regrouting. See tiling
• Etched or pitted surfaces — permanent
• Recurring mould — there is a moisture source. Often a failed extract fan or a leak
