Most households have a list. A cupboard door that will not close, a dripping tap, a curtain rail that came away from the wall, a socket that stopped working, a shelf that has needed putting up since March.

None of them justify a callout on their own. Together they are a morning's work. That is what a handyman visit is for, and doing them in one visit costs a fraction of what it costs to call three separate trades across three separate days.

What we handle

• Fixings and mounting — shelves, mirrors, TV brackets, curtain rails, blinds, artwork into concrete or block
• Furniture — flat-pack assembly, dismantling for moves, repairs to loose joints and failed hinges
• Doors and windows — sticking doors, failed hinges, handles, closers, sliding tracks
• Small plumbing — dripping taps, replacing mixers, shower heads, flexible hoses, toilet seats, silicone sealing
• Small electrical — switches and sockets, light fittings, ceiling fans, replacing failed fittings
• Small carpentry — trims, skirting, cabinet doors and drawers, adjustments
• Wall repairs — filling, patching and touching up after fixings or minor damage
• Bathroom and kitchen — towel rails, accessories, resealing, cabinet adjustments
• General — the jobs that do not fit any of the above and have been on the list for a year

How to make a handyman visit worth it

Save them up. A single visit for one dripping tap is poor value for you. The same visit covering nine jobs is the cheapest maintenance you will buy all year.

Send the list before we come. Photos of each item let us load the right parts and fixings. The most common reason a handyman visit runs over is a second trip to buy a bracket.

Tell us what the wall is. Concrete, block and gypsum partition all take different fixings, and something heavy going into the wrong one will come down. If you are unsure, say so and we will check.

Be realistic about the list length. Ten small items is a comfortable morning. Thirty is a day and a half. We will tell you honestly how long it will take rather than arriving and running out of time.

When you need a trade, not a handyman

This is where we differ from a general handyman service, and it matters for your safety and your property.

Electrical work beyond fittings. Replacing a light switch is handyman work. Anything involving the distribution board, new circuits, rewiring, or a breaker that keeps tripping is not — that is electrical maintenance, and it goes to an electrician.

Plumbing beyond fittings. Changing a tap is handyman work. A leak inside a wall, a drainage problem, a pump fault or anything requiring pipework alteration is plumbing maintenance.

Anything structural. Cracks that are growing, movement, or anything load-bearing goes to civil maintenance.

AC work. A handyman does not open a refrigerant circuit. See AC repair.

Because we run all of those trades in-house, this is a routing decision rather than a referral. If the handyman finds something outside his scope, the right person comes — you are not sent away to find another contractor.

What we bring

Our vans carry standard fixings, sealants, common tap and shower fittings, switch and socket faceplates, hinges, brackets and consumables. Anything specific — a particular mixer, a matching tile, a specific handle — we will source and either bring on the day or on a return visit, and we will tell you which at the point of booking.

Landlords and property managers

Between tenancies, a handyman day clears the entire snagging list before the next tenant arrives — far cheaper than fielding individual complaints over the following six months. We can work from an inventory report and send photographs on completion for properties you do not visit.
